ECO Window Systems Window Replacement: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
A full ECO Window Systems window replacement in Tampa typically runs $850 to $1,900 per window installed, depending on frame size, glass package, and whether we’re pulling the old frame or fitting a sash-only swap. We stock ECO-compatible components on our trucks and can match most models the same week we measure. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a window that won’t stay open, condensation fogging the glass from the inside, or a frame that has started to rot at the bottom corners after a few Florida summers.
We’re Meridian Windows and Doors Tampa, an independent service provider that works on ECO Window Systems products. We’re not affiliated with ECO Window Systems. What we are is a local Tampa crew that has been replacing and installing windows across the Southeast for more than twenty years, including plenty of homes along Bayshore Boulevard where salt air and storm exposure give every seal and frame a real workout.
If your ECO window has a failed seal, a warped sash, or a frame that’s no longer square, the fix usually comes down to a decision: repair the failing part or replace the unit. Elliot Vance, our owner, puts it plainly: “If the opening isn’t square, nothing else matters – we fix that first.” That’s the standard we measure every job against.
Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To
ECO Window Systems builds single-hung, double-hung, casement, and horizontal roller windows. Most of what we replace in Tampa homes are double-hung units from the ECO Classic and ECO Impact series, plus a steady number of casement windows on newer construction. The compatibility question usually comes down to two things: the frame depth and the glass package. ECO frames typically run 2-5/8 inches to 3-1/4 inches deep, and the impact-rated versions add a laminated glass layer that changes both weight and hardware requirements.
Here’s the gotcha we see a lot: homeowners order a replacement sash based on visible glass size and it doesn’t fit. ECO Window Systems uses a pocket jamb liner system, so you can’t just swap glass. The sash, the balance, and the liner have to match the original series. The label you want is on the top edge of the sash or the inside of the frame channel. It lists the series code, manufacturing date, and IG (insulated glass) spec. We match that spec exactly.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for glass units, we use OEM ECO insulated glass whenever the sash is salvageable because the spacer bar spec and desiccant fill are matched to the frame. For balances, locks, and keepers, we carry quality aftermarket parts that meet or exceed the original spec. If the sash itself is bent, cracked, or the corners are pulling apart, aftermarket rarely makes sense. That’s a full window replacement and we tell you that up front.
Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Replacement Is Failing
- Fog or moisture between the glass panes. The IG seal has failed. Once the desiccant inside the spacer bar is saturated, no amount of sunlight removes the haze. The fix is new insulated glass or a new sash.
- The sash won’t stay up or is hard to lift. The spiral balances or block-and-tackle balances are worn. In Tampa’s heat and humidity, balance tubes lose tension faster than inland climates. If one side drops while the other holds, the balance is done.
- You can feel air moving around the closed window. The weatherstripping or the jamb liner has compressed or torn. On ECO double-hungs, the liner takes the most wear because it’s the track the sash rides on.
- The frame corners are dark, soft, or swollen. Water has worked in through failed caulk or a cracked glazing bead. On older ECO frames, the bottom corners are the first place rot shows. This is usually a full replacement, not a repair.
- The lock no longer engages or the keeper is loose. The sash has shifted out of square or the keeper screws have stripped. A lock that won’t throw is a security issue that goes beyond convenience.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we’re quoting in Tampa right now. A sash-only ECO replacement, where the frame is sound, runs $350 to $650 installed. A full window replacement, including pulling the old frame, setting the new one, insulating the rough opening, and trimming the interior, runs $850 to $1,900 depending on size and glass. The table below breaks that out.
- Sash-only replacement (glass + sash): $350 – $650 installed
- Full window replacement, standard glass, typical bedroom size (36″ x 60″): $850 – $1,200 installed
- Full window replacement, impact-rated glass (Florida code where required): $1,200 – $1,900 installed
- Full window replacement, oversized or custom dimensions: $1,500 – $2,500 installed
Every quote we write includes the part, the labor, the trim work, the haul-away, and the site cleanup. No separate line items appear after the fact. The price goes on paper before any work starts and it doesn’t move at the door. Every install is covered in writing for 365 days. If anything fails within that year, we come back at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things yourself without touching a tool. Run a piece of paper along the closed window. If it slides freely, the weatherstripping is shot. Look for the ECO label on the sash top edge so you know the series. Check the corners of the frame with a screwdriver tip, not a knife, for soft spots.
What we don’t recommend is pulling the sash out of the jamb liner yourself. ECO’s pocket liners are under spring tension and the balance tubes can release quickly. I’ve seen homeowners lose a window onto a driveway and crack the vinyl. We’ve also seen second-story sashes dropped from a ladder that cost more in damage than the replacement would have. If the window is jammed or the glass is broken, leave it in place and call us at (850) 821-3041. Estimates are free.
FAQs
In Tampa’s heat and humidity, an ECO Window Systems window typically lasts 15 to 20 years before the glass seal fails or the balances wear out, but the frame itself can last much longer if the original install was done right and the caulk is maintained. Windows with direct southern exposure or salt air near Bayshore Boulevard tend to fail at the earlier end of that range. Call (850) 821-3041 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your window is worth repairing.
Yes, when the frame is sound and the failure is the glass seal, the balance, or the hardware, we repair instead of replacing. If the frame corners are soft or the sash is warped, a repair won’t hold and we’ll recommend a replacement. We never sell a replacement where a repair will do the job.
A sash-only replacement takes under an hour per window. A full frame replacement runs two to four hours per window depending on the interior trim work. Most Tampa jobs wrap up in a single day.
We stock common ECO balances, keepers, locks, and insulated glass units for standard sizes on our service vehicles. Custom or oversized glass is ordered and typically arrives within five to seven business days. We’ll confirm availability when we quote.
We also stock and install compatible components for PGT, CGI, and CWS window lines, so if you have a mixed house with more than one brand, we can handle the whole job in one visit.
